The deadlines for Horizon 7 are Mafor general support and Mafor technical guidance. Horizon 7 must still be under VMware support.We will continue to support Windows 7 for a few more releases. The current Horizon 7, version 7.10, and Horizon Client 5.2 support Windows 7. You must be running a version of the Horizon Client, Horizon Agent, or VMware Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM, previously UEM) that was fully supported with Windows 7.In either scenario, these are the additional restrictions on VMware’s support: Run Windows 7 in Microsoft Azure as a Windows Virtual Desktop entitlement with free ESU for up to three years.There are two ways that a customer can run Windows 7 with Extended Security Updates (ESU) after January 14, 2020: For this reason, we will only support Windows 7 systems that are getting updates from Microsoft. VMware wants to keep our customers as secure as possible. After that date “technical assistance and software updates from Windows Update that help protect your PC will no longer be available for the product.” Microsoft is offering a paid Extended Security Update program for customers who are unable to complete a migration by that time. On January 14, 2020, Microsoft will end extended support for Windows 7. To keep our customers from having an embarrassing accident, we are laying out our Windows 7 and 8 support policy with VMware Horizon. Microsoft announced years ago that it was dropping support for Windows 7 but not all organizations are ready. But it’s tempting to wear those jeans for too long, pretending they are okay when they are actually on the verge of ripping. Please refer to your View documentation to determine which features are included.There is a moment when your jeans are perfectly broken in, soft but still presentable. However, a compatible thin client/endpoint/mobile device may not include all of the features of the newer Horizon Connection Manager release. Supported Horizon (View) Server Releases - A thin client device, endpoint or mobile device certified against a specific VMware Horizon Client release is compatible with current, previous and subsequent View releases according to the compatibility guarantees published as part of that specific Horizon release (typically two major releases in both directions). Horizon (View) Server Release Used -The Horizon Server Release used during the certification testing with the VMware Horizon Client. Horizon Client Release - A thin client device, endpoint or mobile device listed against a particular VMware Horizon Client release (Formerly called View Client ) in the Release column has been tested by the thin client, endpoint or mobile device manufacturer against that specific VMware Horizon Client release and includes a minimum set of features supported in that VMware Horizon Client version. Release and Supported Releases - Thin Clients/Endpoints/Mobile devices: This client meets the minimum requirements VMware has set for certification, however specific features of these clients may vary between different vendors and devices. Vendor - This client type is a device developed by specific vendors. VMware - This client type is a device which utilizes the Horizon software and includes functionality as described in the Administration Guide for Horizon: Software - This is a software-based thin client image used to re-purpose your existing x86 PCs into thin clients and meets the minimum requirements of the thin client certification program. Hardware - This is a hardware-based thin client device meeting the minimum requirements of the thin client certification program. VMware provides support only for the products that are listed in this Compatibility Guide. Vendor products are tested for compatibility with Horizon.
